Sangster Elementary Shines Again: Second Consecutive Highest Achievement Exemplar Award

Sangster Elementary School has once again been recognized for its exceptional academic performance by the Virginia Board of Education. For the second year in a row, the school has been awarded the prestigious Highest Achievement Exemplar Award. Sangster Administration and Staff were recognized for this achievement at the FCPS School Board Meeting October 24, 2024.

This award honors schools that consistently achieve high academic standards, demonstrate significant student growth, and maintain low absenteeism rates. To be eligible for this award, schools must meet several rigorous criteria, including:

  • Accreditation: The school must be accredited by the Virginia Department of Education.
  • State Benchmark Achievement: The school must meet or exceed state benchmarks in reading, math, and science for all students.
  • Student Group Performance: All student groups within the school must meet or exceed state benchmarks in reading and math.
  • Equity in Achievement: There must be minimal achievement gaps between different student groups.
  • Low Chronic Absenteeism: The school must have a chronic absenteeism rate of 15% or lower.
