Sangster Elementary honored veterans and active military personnel on Veterans Day, Monday, November 11, at 9:30 a.m. Sangster has a large military population and an active military spouses group that helps host this Veterans Day celebration. Currently, 243 Sangster students are identified as active duty dependents in the armed forces, reserve forces, or National Guard. One hundred eighty-three families are registered with the military spouses group, providing support to and offering advocacy for military families, contributing to military-focused events at the school, and coordinating philanthropic involvement of military families with students at Sangster. The Veteran’s Day celebration included active military personnel from each of the five branches of the armed services as well as choral, band, and handbell performances of patriotic music by students in grades 4-6. Throughout the day, military personnel visited every classroom in the school. The purpose of the celebration  was to help raise awareness of the nation’s values and instill a strong sense of citizenship and patriotism in students.
