Third Grade November Newsletter
As we wrap up our fiction unit, students continue to enhance reading strategies by asking questions before, during, and after reading. We will analyze texts to determine the author’s purpose, or whether the author writes to persuade, inform, or entertain the reader.
We will continue to ask questions and determine the author’s purpose as we start our next unit on nonfiction. Students will learn how to access information from a nonfiction text including text features like the table of contents, glossary, index, maps, diagrams, photographs, and captions.We will analyze various texts to determine the main idea.
Our writers will read and share about informational texts and begin thinking about ways that they can use nonfiction text features in their own writing.
As we start our second quarter, we will continue with Multiplication and Division Part 1. Students are developing an understanding of multiplication and division and applying strategies for basic multiplication facts and related division facts.
During out next unit, Fractions Part 1, students will deepen their understandings of fraction concepts by modeling, naming and writing fractions. Students will solve equal sharing problems to show flexibility within their understanding of how fractions relate to the whole.
Social Studies/ Science
We are having a lot of fun in science learning about ecosystems and how living and nonliving organisms are connected. Our world geography unit is up next! We’ll explore the geographic features of every continent.
