January Monthly Updates: Sixth Grade
Sixth Grade News for January!
Readers will discover the elements of poetry as well as continuing to read a variety of fiction and nonfiction stories. We will meet with ongoing Guided Reading groups to remediate and enrich our units of study.
6th Grade Math - We are finishing up our unit on ratios. We will also be working on expressions, equations, and inequalities.
Advanced Math – We are working on graphing inequalities and will then be learning about functions, to include determining slope and graphing functions on a coordinate plane.
We are continuing with our Weather unit as we investigate and describe the patterns of weather including weather fronts and cloud formations as well as learning about different weather tools.
We will begin our unit on Colonial America. We will identify the New England, Mid-Atlantic, and Southern colonies. We will discuss the reasons the colonies were established as well as explore the possible theories of Roanoke, the lost colony.

1/10 – Band field trip for band students to Lake Braddock
1/14 – Lake Braddock counselors will visit Sangster to talk about course selection
1/15 – IOWA math test for advanced math students
1/18 – 3 HR Early Dismissal
1/21 – No School – Martin Luther King Jr. Day
1/24 – End of 2nd Quarter
1/25 – Teacher Workday
