Sixth Grade News for January 2020!

Language Arts:

Readers will discover the elements of poetry as well as continuing to read a variety of fiction and nonfiction stories. We will meet with ongoing Guided Reading groups to remediate and enrich our units of study.


6th Grade Math - We are working on coordinate planes and congruence.

Advanced Math – We are working on graphing inequalities and learning about functions, to include determining slope and graphing functions on a coordinate plane.


We are continuing with our Weather unit as we investigate and describe the patterns of weather including weather fronts and cloud formations as well as learning about different weather tools.

Social Studies:

We will finishing up with Colonial America and moving onto studying the Revolutionary War.  We will be discussing the reasons for colonial dissatisfaction with England.

1/1-3 – No School – Winter Break

1/8, 9, or 10 – American Art Museum Fieldtrip

1/9 – MS Curriculum Night at LBSS

1/14 – IOWA math test for advanced math students

1/17 – Lake Braddock counselors will visit Sangster to talk about course selection

1/20 – No School – Martin Luther King Jr. Day

1/22 – Field trip to Irving Middle School for those students who will be attending IMS

1/24 – End of 2nd Quarter – Full day of school

1/27 & 28 – Teacher Workdays
