Monthly News- 1st Grade
September 27, 2019

Welcome to first grade! Check back in each month to see what we are doing!

Thank you to all of our volunteers who helped by sending in needed supplies or by running a station for our Apple Festival. The event would not have been a success without your contribution and support!

In literacy we are talking about the characters we read about and the inside (what we can see) and outside (what we know based on what the character says and does) character traits of them. We are talking about small moments and how to write personal narratives with a beginning, middle, and end that tie into the same topic. We will begin our guided reading groups this month where we will meet with each student in a small reading group based on texts that fit their individual reading needs.

We will be working hard on addition, subtraction, and word problems with sums up to 10. Your child will learn many new strategies for solving these problems.

We will be learning about the US and Virginia maps and important Virginia symbols. We will be discussing different types of weather and how the trees will look in fall.
