Grade 1 November Update

Monthly News- 1st Grade
November 06, 2019

Welcome to first grade! Check back in each month to see what we are doing!

This month, we will be having the annual Sangster Thanksgiving lunch! Your individual teacher will let you know about your child’s date and lunch time. This is always a fun time for families and students to celebrate all we have to be thankful for with lunch together.

November is also Book Fair month! The Book Fair will be taking place in the library during the week of Thanksgiving lunches. Please stop by and browse the wonderful selection.

On November 11, Sangster students will learn about Veterans Day. Our students would love to have a visit from someone who is active or retired military to share their experience, read a book, talk about patriotism, or anything related to Veterans Day. If you or someone in your family would like to visit your child’s class on Veterans Day, please send an e-mail to their teacher.

This month we will be starting our geometry unit. We will be talking about where we see shapes in our daily lives and also learning about the similarities and differences of shapes based on their sides and vertices.

During literacy we will be discussing non-fiction texts. We will be learning about the parts of a non-fiction book and we will even practice writing our own non-fiction books to tell others about something that we know about.
