Sixth Grade News for February!

Language Arts:

Through multiple readings, readers will analyze the effects of poetic devices in a variety of poetic forms (rap, musicals, lyrics, novels written in verse). We will then begin our Research Unit.  We will meet with ongoing Guided Reading groups to remediate and enrich our units of study.

Math:

6th Grade Math - We are working on order of operations, solving one-step equations, and graphing inequalities on a number line.

Advanced Math – We are working on Geometry, with a focus on quadrilaterals to include how to use proportionality when solving problems.

Science:

The General Education classes are cycling through one of these three units: Investigating and describing the properties of water in all three phases, Investigating different kinds of energy, and Investigating patterns of weather including weather fronts and cloud formations as well as learning about different weather tools.

The AAP classes are focusing on the first of those units.

Social Studies:

We will finish our Colonial America Unit (delayed due to snow days!) and then begin our unit on The American Revolution focusing on explaining issues of dissatisfaction that led to the American Revolution as well as describing key events and individuals in the revolution, along with the why the colonies were able to defeat Great Britain.
