Reading Essential Question:

Continuing asking about author’s message and personal perspective. What might the author really be trying to say? Why might the author have written this book?  What might the author want me to learn?                                   

Comprehension Skill Focus:

Continue predicting and asking questions. What experiences and influences do I bring to the text? What do I believe about this topic?

Language Arts Oral Language Focus:

  • I am beginning to show voice (my style) in my writing!
  • I can write stories with details about my characters.

Math Standards covered:

Continue Addition and Subtraction with regrouping, word problems, and begin Geometry.

DREAMBOX – Keep using your Dream Box and keep up the terrific practice!

Word Study Skills:

  • Continue exploring word endings.
  • Always focus on patterns.

Writing Focus:

Using skills previously learned to write stories with a beginning, Middle (Problem), End (Solution).  Add details with adjectives and character development. Begin using research to write non-fiction.

Science Standards covered:

Wondering About Weather: SCI investigate and understand basic types, changes, and patterns of weather. SCI.G2.7 investigate and understand that weather and seasonal changes affect plants, animals, and their surroundings.

Social Studies Standards covered: Famous Americans and explorers.

Important Dates:

April is Month of the Military Child- wear purple on April 10th to celebrate them.

April 4th- 3rd grading period ends

April 5th-Teacher work day, no school

Yearbook ordering deadline April 12th

April 15th–19th- Spring Break

April 22nd - Earth Day

2nd Grade Zoo Field Trip April 26th
